Gordon arrived in Australia from Glasgow at the age of 9 and started strumming the guitar at 12. He began formal study at 14 with Trinity College London (based in Melbourne) and then continued with Pearl Rawlings where after 5 years he was offered a teaching position.
He also studied with jazz guitarist Bruce Clarke (from Fascinating Rhythm – on TV) and took over his Bercklee Ensemble Reading Classes for Guitarist. Other formal studies included:

ABC Orchestra Guitarist Dale Kohry which followed theatre orchestra work doing shows with JC Williamson.

Classical studies with Sadie Bishop and Jochen Schubert

Jazz studies with Dale Kohry; and

Masterclasses with Joe Pass, Herb Ellis, Barney Kessel, Ed Bickert and others.
Gordon's reputation as a gifted and talented guitarist and banjo player launched
a career which has spanned over 50 years, performing with world class acts
such as:

He also toured with the ABC Orchestra performing at the Sydney Opera House and all capital cities in Australia with Umberto Tozzi and then 6 years with JC Williams Theatres which produced shows such as "Man of LaMancha", "Two Gentlemen of Verona", "Hair", "Cabaret", "Evita" and Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Song Dance".
Moving to the Gold Coast he played at Jupiters Casino for 6 years at the International Showroom, backing artists such as:
